He was the son of George & Mary (Tyler) Damon. He moved, with his parents, to Wisconsin and grew to adulthood there.

He married Elizabeth E. Stanton, 3 Sept 1873, Kansas City, Jackson County, Missouri.

After the War he became interested in milling. He bought part interest in the National Flour Mill at Liberty, in Clay County, Missouri and moved there in 1881.
