Carl A. Sotherden, 87, of Aldgate Court, Liverpool, died Thursday at St. Joseph's Hospital.
Mr. Sotherden was a life resident of the town of Clay, living 77 years on his family's farm before moving to Casual Estates in 1985. He retired from farming in 1966 and retired in 1977 from the Central New York Regional Market. He was a 1927 graduate of Morrisville Agricultural and Technical Institute.
Mr. Sotherden was a life member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Clay, and the Clay Volunteer Fire Department. He was a member of the Onondaga County Extension Service, a former member of the East Clay Grange and a former president of the Farm Bureau. He also was a former president of the Clay Taxpayers' Association.
Surviving are his wife, the former Martha Baxter; a daughter, Shirley Rae Stanley of Weedsport; a son, Ronald of Westerville, Ohio; a sister, Marion Rogers of Syracuse ; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday in Pine Plains Cemetery, Clay.
There will be no calling hours.
Contributions may be made to the memorial fund of Immanuel Lutheran Church or the Arthritis Foundation.
Watson Funeral Home, Central Square, has charge of arrangements.
