Fred "Freddy" Baker, of the 2800 block of Davis St., died in his home March 6, 1994.
He was a native of Augusta, Ga. He came to Norfolk at an early age and fell in love with the city, especially the Church Street area. He was the proprietor of Nimrod Shoe Shine and Newspaper Shop and also a member of the Helping Hand Social & Saving Club. He was baptized in the Catholic faith.
He is survived by his wife, Sereptia Baker; a daughter, Sandra Small of New York; a devoted stepdaughter, Linda Cooke, and son-in-law, Garry Cooke; three brothers; three sisters-in-law; three grandchildren; a special cousin, Emmaline Vaughan; a special nephew, Jerome Holley; and a host of other cousins and friends.
The funeral will be conducted at noon Thursday in the Basilica of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception by Father Walter Barrett. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Friends may join the family at the residence. Graves Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
