Appointed 5/2/1862 Captain, acting Regimental QuarterMaster, succeeding his cousin, Captain Casper Wistar Wallace.
On 7/9/1862 was promoted to Regimental QuarterMaster after Col. Harrison wrote Secretary of War on 6/17/1862 urging promotion.
Detached Winter 1863 to Corse's Brigade, ordnance trains.
Promoted to Captain, Division QuarterMaster, reporting to General Pickett; detached to ordnance train of Pickett's Division.
Paroled at Appomattox, Va.

Postwar lived at 927 Main Street.
