Haywood Alexander (Woody) Williams, son of the late Mr. & Mrs. Robert and Sallie Williams of Newport News, Virginia. After the death of his mother, he and his sisters moved to Lackawanna, New York to live with their grandparents, the late Mr. & Mrs. William Horace. He attended and obtained his formal education in Lackawanna, New York and later moved to Manhattan to make a better life for himself. Yet, he never forgot his roots and his extended family. In New York , he attended New York City Community College of Applied Arts and Science, where he expanded his love of music and theater. He was a member of the Negro Urban League, the NAACP and the Duke Ellington Society. He worked as a New York Civil Service Employee for the Delpartment of Personnel and Recruitment. He also tutored, inspired and encouraged many young people to further their education.
