Obituary--Huntsville Republican--From xeroxed article in MCGHS office--In memorium--Mrs Lucinda Drake, late wife of Elijah Drake, Sr. departed this life at her home in Madison County AR on Sunday the 19th of October 1884 after a painful illness of four weeks. The subject of this communication was born in Middle Tennessee on March 15th, 1815 and was in her 70th year at the date of her death. She emigrated to this state with parents about 50 years ago, when this country was sparsely settled. She was joined in marriage to Elijah Drake, Sr. in 1837. Soon after her marriage, she professed religion and joined the Baptist Church and up to her death she remained a consistent and devoted Christian. Her hope in the Almighty was steadfast, nothing doubting & of her hope beyond the grave of a happy immortality, she always expressed an abiding confidence. She was the mother of 10 children, 7 of them and her aged husband still survive her. As a wife, mother, neighbor or friend, she was much beloved by all. Mother is gone, we feel & see the vacancy; but we feel confident that our loss is her eternal gain. But we ought not mourn her loss to us, but in the words of the poet say, "why do we mourn departing friends or shake at death's alarms, Tis but the voice that Jesus sends to take us to his arms".
