Dred married Julia A. GATLIN about 1858. They had four children: John E, Mary A. E., Samuel Richard (Ritchie) & Sarah Catherine MAY.

He moved his family to Texas between 1870-1880, where he was a farmer. He died of "old age" per his TX Death Certificate.
