Death of Mrs. Mary Shaver

Mrs. Mary Shaver died at the home of her daughter, Mrs.[Alice Melissa] Albert Cottrell Friday, September 4, after an illness of three days. Her death was due to the infirmities of old age. Short funeral services were held at Mrs. Cottrell's home and the remains were then brought to the Methodist church in Long Prairie where the regular services were held, Rev. W. J. Medland of Long Prairie and Rev. and Mrs. Winn of Alexandria officiating. Interment was in the Long Prairie cemetery. The pall bearers were her grandsons, Roy Shaver of Minneapolis, Verne Bundy of Reynolds, Melvin Richardson of Long Prairie, and Raymond., Victor and Clarence Shaver of Long Prairie. Mrs. Shaver was Miss Mary Pauline Greenman and she was born in Ottawa, Canada, January 27, 1845. She was therefore 80 years, 7 months and 7 days old at the time of her death. In 1861, she was married to John N. Shaver in Stark county, Illinois. They lived in that state four years and then moved to Missouri. In 1872 they moved to Minnesota. Ten children were born to them, one dying in infancy [Bertrand Shaver]. In 1910, Mr. Shaver, died. Since his death she had made her home with her children. The surviving children are as follows: Jasper P. Shaver of Long Prairie; Mrs.[Eva Ann] Seth Cottrell who lives in Canada; Mrs. Albert Cottrell [Melissa Alice Shaver], Osakis, Route 4; Elmer Shaver of Nampa, Idaho; Oliver Shaver of Minneapolis; Mrs. Iva Hutel [Hustead] who lives in Missouri; Mrs. Daniel Scheel of Washington [state]; and Pearl(y) (Jay) and John shaver whose addresses are not known. She is also survived by 22 grandchildren, two brothers, who are Ed Greenman of Westbrook, Minn. and Jay Greenman of Morgan Hill, California, and a sister Mrs. William Burnett of Morgan Hill, California.

Note: Raised by her uncle,Chauncey Wellington Greenman. She was probably the illegitimate child of Adelia Angeline Greenman I, who was Chauncey's sister. Her biological father is unknown. Adelia moved to CA and married Wm. Mann.
