U.S. Congresswoman. After the sudden death of her husband Congressman Sidney E. Simpson, she agreed to replace him as the GOP nominee in the western Illinois congressional district. In 1959, she was elected as a Republican to the Eighty-sixth Congress, serving until 1961. During her single term in office, she compiled an admirable record of service on the House Administration Committee, the Interior and Insular Affairs Committee. Plus she proposed an amendment to the Railroad Retirement Act that allowed retirees who received veterans’ benefits to collect their full annuities. Not seeking re-nomination, she lived in retirement until her death.
