Obituary~

Ophia Belle Pendleton joined her eternal family on April 4, 2011 at the age of 97 years old. She was born to Solmon Carol Rackley and Dora Leon Carr on September 20, 1913 in Retta, Arkansas. Ophia was the second youngest of her six siblings, Alta Gouge, Herman Rackley, Nola Rackley, Mahalley Manns, Pierce Rackley, and Jim Rackley. Her parents, two sisters, and three brothers preceded her in death.

Ophia married Alfred Monroe Pendleton on May 18, 1930 in Retta, Arkansas. They moved the family to Exeter, California in August, 1953.

Ophia worked in the packing house industry for many years and was a daycare provider for 15 years. Alfred and Ophia were married 77 years and had 10 children; Betty Higdon of Exeter, CA, Euletta Stuart of Dover, AR, Dorene Seal of Exeter, CA, Bobby Pendleton of Exeter, CA, Patsy Seal of Visalia, CA, Linda Starkey of North Little Rock, AR, and Bill Pendleton of Visalia, CA. Ophia was preceded in death by her husband, and three of her children, Troy Pendleton, Kathy Pendleton and Alma Karnes.

Ophia has 22 Grandchildren, 44 Great Grandchildren, and 25 Great Great Grandchildren, who all affectionately call her "Mema". One Grandchild preceded her in death. Ophia was a member of the First Assembly of God Church. She was a strong and beautiful woman, who was also a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother to many.

She had a passion for sewing, crochet, and knitting, and was known to make clothing, quilts, and blankets for her family and friends. She leaves behind a huge void in all our lives, and will be greatly missed and thought of often.

For those wishing to say goodbye, the graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM on April 7, 2011 at the Exeter District Cemetery. Arrangements by Smith Family Chapel, Exeter. Condolences: smithfamilychapel.com Happy sewing Mema, love your family!
