MRS. CORA FOSTER DIES HERE SUNDAY
Mrs. Cora W. Foster, 74, a resident of Gladwin for more than 55 years, died at her home here early Sunday after an illness of several weeks. Funeral services were held Tuesday at the home at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Sidney Rood, of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, officiating. Burial was in Highland cemetery.
A daughter of Deram Mills, pioneer Gladwin merchant, Mrs. Foster was born near Lynn in St. Clair county on July 24, 1870. She moved with her parents to Gladwin in 1889. She was married on May 20, 1891, to Fern C. Smith, superintendent of schools at Gladwin and later prosecuting attorney of the county. He succumbed to typhoid fever in September of 1902. In 1916 she was married to Eugene Foster, editor of The Record, who preceded her in death on October 2, 1928.
Always active in community affairs, Mrs. Foster was a member of the Gladwin Woman's Club, the Order of Eastern Star, the Rebekahs and the St. Paul's Episcopal Guild. She was also a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church. Her death Sunday came as a shock to hundreds of friends in Gladwin and throughout the county.
Pall-bearers at her funeral Tuesday included Jonathan Brown, Ernest Korkoske, Basil Stout, George Carvey, Ink White and Fred M. Hall. Surviving are her son, Gordon M. Smith; of Gladwin and four grandchildren.
