Putnam F. Caldwell was the son of Samuel Caldwell and Susan Landis.
Putnam married Rebecca Hare 19 Aug 1861 in Henderson Co., Illinois. They had three known children; Etta Ola b. 1867, Ida M. b. 1870, and Charles b. 1871.
Rebecca died in 1882. Putnam married Mahala Jane Isaac Winans in 1890. The marriage ended in divorce. After the divorce, Putnam went to Oregon to visit his brothers, Edwin and Samuel Landis Caldwell. After his death, his body was shipped by rail to Carson, Pottawattamie, Iowa for burial.
