Hans Frederick Bunning, one of nine children of Claus and Magdalena Tank Bunning ,was born at Bargenstedt, Germany, Oct. 26, 1878 and passed away during his sleep at his farm home three miles east of Round Lake, Minn., on Wednesday, Dec. 7, 1949 at the age of 71 years, one month and 11 days.
At the age of five years, he came to America with his parents and settled in Scott county,. Iowa, In 1902 when he was twenty years old he came to Jackson county, Minn., with his parents and brothers and sisters. Two years later, on Feb. 16, 190,4, he was united in marriage to ~s Bertha Steinhagen of Sioux Valley, and they started farming three miles east of Round Lake, Minn., where they lived ever since, and where he passed peacefully away on Wednesday night.
He was baptized in the Lutheran faith when a small child in Germany.
He knew all the hardships of pioneer life in this section, and at the age of nine years while herding cattle he Wall afflicted with rheumatism caused by exposure which has caused him a great deal of suffering all his life. He suffered quietly and never complained although he has been crippled most of his life. About two years ago he was hospitalized for twenty days with gangrene, but made a miraculous recovery.
He was a home-loving father, and took great pride in his family and their accomplishments. He was honest in his dealings, and everyone was his friend. He spent much time reading these last two years, and enjoyed visiting with his family and friends.
He served many years on the school board of the rural school where all his children attended.
Three sons and a daughter passed away in infancy.
He leaves his wife, who has been his devoted companion these 45 years; and five children: Mrs. Alfred Siebke of Lakefield, Minn, Leroy at home, Mrs. Harry Reimers, Mrs. Wallace StoHerabn, and Mrs. Dale Bastman all of Lake Park. There are ten grandchildren who will miss his love and affection.
Two grandchildren and three sisters and one brother preceded him in death.
He also leaves three brothers and a sister, Otto and' Herman Bunning of Lake Park; Mrs. John Garms of Round Lake, Minn" and John BUnning of Long Beach, Calif.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Dec. 10 at the home at 1:30 and at the presbyterian church at: Round Lake MfuiL, at 2 p. in. with the 'pastor Rev. Kruse officiating. The choir sang "In the Garden" and "Rock of Ages," accompanied by Florence Morgan.
Pall bearers were Gilbert Berg, Theodore Lage, Herman Schroeder, Rudolph Untiedt, Bernard Otto and Alfred Decombus.
Burial was in the Round Lake Cemetery.
Among those from a distance at the last rites were Mr. and Mrs. Francis Bunning of Arkansas, Wisconsin; Mrs. Ed Dittes .of Ortonville, .Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Rudy Schmidt, Mr. and Mrs. Harm Hippen and Mrs. Charles Schwandt, all of Wilmont, S. D., and Mr. and Mrs. Leroy Garms of Windom, Minn. .
The Golden Rule Aid. served dinner and lunch to the relatives.
