WEST BERKSHIRE – Clayton Randall Abair, age 53, passed away Tuesday afternoon April 5, 2011 at his home with his loving family at his side.

He was born December 5, 1957 in Rutland the son of the late Harold J. & Carolyn A. (Smith) Abair.

He was a resident of West Berkshire for the past 21 1/2 years and was a former resident of Vergennes. As a young man he served in the U.S. Army. He was the owner and operator of Abair Roofing which he started in 1990. Clayton was a hard working gentleman and so proud of his roofing etc. He loved the outdoors, gardening, fishing, hunting, spending time with his family and helping others. All of these things kept him busy right to his final days. He especially enjoyed his flower gardens. He was proud to be a grandfather and was known as Papa to his family. He also loved his pets, dog – Rocky and cat – Elmo.

Clayton was a loving husband and father. He is survived by his wife, Marie (Gramling) Abair of West Berkshire; his sons, Christopher Abair and Travis Walker both of West Berkshire; his daughters, Kimberley Russell of Enosburg, Melanie Hutchens and husband Paul of Alabama and Julie Ingalls and husband Henry of Johnson; his grandchildren, Janathon Milam, Allyssa & Breanna Russell, Brandie Moody, Elizabeth Hutchens and Natalie Walker; his brothers and their spouses, Joseph & Cindy Abair of Essex, Robert & Sheila Abair of St. Albans and Jason Abair of Alburgh; his sister, Cathy Abair of Washington, VT; several nieces and nephews; his fathers-in-law, Edward Gramling of Strafford and Roy Shattuck Jr of St. Albans; and several brothers & sisters-in-law. Besides his parents, Clayton was predeceased by a son-in-law, Robbie Russell; and mothers-in-law, Margaret Gramling and Mildred Shattuck.

Funeral services will be held Friday April 15, 2011 at 2:00 PM at the Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls. Interment will follow in the West Berkshire Cemetery. Following the committal a pot luck dinner will be held at the American Legion Hall, 108 Depot St., Enosburg Falls.

A time of visitation will be held on Friday April 15th at the funeral home from 12:00 PM until the hour of the funeral
