THE FOLLOWING WAS WRITTEN TO MARTHA BY HER FIRST HUSBAND, HARRY ROSCOE SUMNER WHO PASSED AWAY IN 1966:

In dreams I wandered today to the creek, Martha, to watch the scenes unfold. Oh, the creek and the old gravel pit, Martha, where we went in the long, long ago.

Most of the willows have gone from the creek, Martha. A lot of new houses have sprung, and the old gravel pit, it has stilled, Martha, since you and I were young.

But I think of the days that we spent, Martha, swimming and just having fun. The Strawders (friends) and you and I, Martha, when you and I were young.

But now we are aging and gray, Martha, and most of our life may be done. But to me you're as fair as you were, Martha, when you and I were young.
