Bruce Warfel was born in Osceola, Iowa August 15, 1856, and passed away June 5, 1935, while on a visit in Wyoming. His parents, Isaac and Amanda Warfel were of pioneer stock and from them he inherited strong mental and physical qualities. The family moved to Winterset, Iowa where he spent his boyhood. Moving to Des Moines, he spent his adult life in this city.
November 5, 1893, he married Mary Rawson, who passed away November 25, 1918. To them were born three children, who all survive them: Mrs Irene Peterson, and Mrs Mildred Geersen of Albin, Wyoming, and Mrs Mary Hahn of Arapahoe, Nebraska. There are nine grandchildren; also a sister Mrs Bertha Chittenden, and a niece Mrs R.N. Cary, both of Des Moines surviving.
Bruce Warfel Had strong and positive opinions concerning community life. An uncompromising advocat of Human Rights. When the family was togehter in Des Moines he took an active part in the affairs of his community, and during the part of each year spent with his daughters and families in Wyoming took an active part in their neighborhood community life.
He was faithful to his friends and devoted to his family. All have their burdens but whatever came his way he bore manfully and with out complaint. For the past few years he has been connected with the city assessor's office, handling principally downtown assessements. he was engaged in this work at the time of his death.
