Beedie W. Kreiss, daughter of John and Lottie Miles Kreiss, was born March 11, 1899 in Keosauqua and died the morning of Tuesday, Feb. 12, 1985 at Americana Health Care Center in Waterloo at the age of 85.
She grew up in Keosauqua and graduated from Keosauqua High School in 1917. She later graduated from Iowa State Teachers College at Cedar Falls, having attended college in summer sessions interspersed with teaching during the school years.
She taught in rural Van Buren county schools, in Keosauqua and Sibley, and for many years in Waterloo public schools. She retired in 1966, completing a 49 year teaching career, at which time she was honored with a special recognition and a plaque presented by the Irving School Parent-Teachers Association in Waterloo.
She never married, but devoted her life to the development of the minds and bodies of children who passed through her classrooms.
Remaining are a brother, John Kreiss of Mt. Pleasant, three sisters, Lena DeHart of Wickenburg, Ariz., Edith Jemison of Oskaloosa, and Lottie Mae Bowen of Marshalltown, nieces and nephews, other relatvies and many friends, including Irene Zeuch, a long time friend with whom she lived for many years.
Her parents, four brothers, Lawrence, Harold, Joe and Bobbie, and a sister, Florence Hobbs preceded her in death.
Funeral services were held Friday, Feb. 15, 1985 at 1:30 p.m. at Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua, with Rev. Louise Spears officiating. Interment was in Purdom Cemetery, Keosauqua
