Mr. Gibbs was a member of the Baptist Church, a resident of Bay City since August, and a former longtime resident of Onalaska and Marble Falls, Texas. He was a veteran of WW II serving in the US Army Air Force and a dual life member of the Blue Bonnet Masonic Lodge # 1219 AF & AM in San Antonio, Texas and the San Andres Masonic Lodge # 170 AF & AM in Cameron, Texas.
Survivors include: sisters, Lucille Richardson and husband Morris of Houston and Irene Hale of Castroville, Texas; brother, Kenneth R. Gibbs and wife Beth of Houston; sister-in-law, Etta Jean Gibbs of Bay City; numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by sisters, Lacy Jewel Cleek, Zora Gracie Glauser, Mildred Lorraine Getty and Doris Evelyn Cockburn; and brothers, William Carroll Gibbs, Coleman Truett Gibbs, Joe Taylor "Pete" Gibbs and Harrell Denson Gibbs.
Funeral service were held 11 a.m. Saturday, December 6, 2003, at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home with the Rev. Mike Zimmerman officiating. Interment followed at Roselawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Van Vleck, Texas.
Pallbearers were Donald Richardson, Kenneth A. Gibbs, John Hale, and Bobby Bonorden. Memorials may be made to the Matagorda Co. Genealogical Society, P. O. Box 264, Bay City, Texas 77404-0264.
The family would like to thank Dr. Michael Neret for the wonderful care and support that he gave us during Mr. Gibbs' illness.
