There is little known about Charles' Family prior to the Civil War. He enlisted on Oct. 4th, 1862 in Canaan, N. Y. He is noted for being with Company I, 91rst New York Volunteers. On his veteran's papers it list that he was born in Chatham, his occupation was that of a Farmer. He was 5'7" with a fair complexion, black hair and dark eyes.
In 1870 Charles marries Cora B Van Steenburgh in Red Hook, on June 5th at the Episcopal Church. The ceremony was officiated over by Rev. J.W.Moore.
They had 8 known children. Minnie Huested (1871-1951), William Huested (1873-?), Francis Catherine Huested Alexander
(1875-?), John M Huested (1877-1878), Lewis Henry Huested (1879-1912), Charles Frederick Huested (1882-?), James B Huested (1885-1917) and Maud L Huested (1889-?).
