Alvah Tennyson Williams, 85, died March 15, 2004, at his residence with his family at his side.
Mr. Williams was born in Wanchese, N.C., to the late Arthur and Carlie Williams. He was a member of the Moyock United Methodist Church, Manteo Masonic Lodge No. 521, the Scottish Rite Bodies, a Shriner and former town councilman of Kitty Hawk, N.C. He retired from Oceana Naval Air Station as a utilities supervisor and was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Navy.
Mr. Williams was predeceased by his first wife, Nancy Midgett Williams and sons Gregory (Buster) and Arthur Williams. Survivors include his wife, Margaret Foster Williams; two daughters, Annette Williams Slater of Williamsburg and Carlie Williams Bertram of West Point, Va.; two sons, Jim Williams and Tenny Williams, both of Williamsburg; two sisters, Pauline Haywood of Chesapeake and Myrtle Tillett of Wanchese, N.C.; a stepdaughter, Susan Evans of Kill Devil Hills, N.C.; a stepson, Fred Evans of Chesapeake; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. at Twifords Colonial Chapel, Chesapeake, with the Rev. Susie Fitch-Slater and the Rev. Vic Culberson officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
