Ida (Swanson) Nickander with Anna (Edlund) Cleary. Aitkin, MN 1896

This group of young ladies all worked together at a hotel in Aitkin, Minnesota. The hotel was the Willard Hotel and ran by John R. O'Maley in 1900. This photo was taken while they all worked there around this time. The ladies were friends of Ida (Swanson) Nickander and Anna (Edlund) Cleary. This photo was in Ida's trunk, which I was born in.
Ida also worked at the hotel in Aitkin.

Maggie (Malberg) Anderson, born Sept. 22nd, 1876 Sweden. She moved to Washington with family. Many of Maggie's descendants, attended the Nickander/Swanson reunion at Aitkin, MN in 2005. The Malberg family: from Sweden to Minnesota to Washington.

Eric/Erick P. Malberg- born Dec. May 7th, 1851, Sweden.
In the 1910 census he is living with his daughter, Maggie and husband here: Cedarhome, Snohomish Co, Washington with his wife Bessie and daughter, Bessie. Eric died on Aug 27th, 1933, Republic, Ferry CO, WA. On his death certificate, he s listed as E. P. Melberg (not Malberg). He is buried at the Curlew City Cemetery in Curlew, Ferry Co and his grave is marked.

Brita Lena (Betsie/Bessie) (Nilsson) Malberg-born July 20th, 1853, Fränsta, Torp Parish, Medelpad, Sweden. She died on Apr 29th, 1923, Curlew, Ferry Co, WA. Their children were Margaret (Maggie), Eric and Brita/Bessie. She is buried at the Curlew City Cemetery and her grave is marked.

Margaret (Maggie) (Malberg) Anderson- born Sept 22nd, 1876,
Sweden. Went out to Washington after 1900. Maggie's name was spelled Melberg in the 1900 Aitkin County, MN census. Married in Washington to John F. Anderson, born Dec. 21st, 1873, Sweden. John died on March 29th, 1947, Clark Co, WA. Children: Clarence F. born 1905 WA, Janet M. born 1907 WA, Chester Erick born 1907 WA, Dorothy born 1912 WA and Ruby born 1916, WA. In the 1920 census Maggie is listed under Marqurite and living at Ferry Co, WA with family. Maggie died on Sept 26th, 1926 at Curlew, Ferry Co, WA. Both John and Maggie are buried at the Curlew City Cemetery and their graves are marked.

Eric/Erick Malberg-born Sept 22nd, 1885, MN and died in May 1969 at Mount Vernon, Skagit, WA. In the 1910 census he is also living at Cedarhome, Snohomish Co, WA, and married to Ethel Malberg. Years later I was in touch with their son, Erick.

Brita/Bessie Malberg- born Oct 1889, MN. In 1910 not married and living with Maggie and family at Cedarhome.
