George Cessna, 75, of 2000 Grand Ave., West Des Moines, a retired Des Moines policeman, died of a heart attack Friday at Veterans Hospital. He had been ill 2 1/2 months.
Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Monday at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, with burial in Resthaven Cemetery.
Mr. Cessna, who was born in Eldora, moved to Des Moines after service in World War I. He joined the Police Department in 1924 and served as a patrolman, detective, sergeant, captain and inspector. He retired in 1961 when the rank of inspector was abolished.
Mr. Cessna was a member of the American Legion, 40 & 8, Elks, Police Burial and Protective Association, the Iowa Chiefs and Police Officers Association and St. Anthony's Catholic Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Connie Ocheltree of Des Moines; three brothers, Tom of Indianapolis, Ind., Albert of Savanna, Ill., and Bill, who lives in South Carolina; a sister, Lila Barr of Glendale, Calif., and two grandchildren.
The rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. Sunday at Tonini Funeral Home.
