Samuel is son of Andrew Famous and Sarah Crawford, grandson of John Famos and Catherine Schoenlein, born in 1746 in Germany as a twin, daughter of Johannes Michael Schoenlein and Anna Dorothea Wolffen.

OBIT: Samuel R. Famous who departed this life January 28th, 1881, in the 70th year of his age. In the early morning the angel of death appeared and took from among us one who had learned to love so well. Kind friends could prolong his stay no longer, for God had sent His messenger to bear him over the river. (poem follows) signed A.B.B. Southern Aegis news Jan 1881

WILL: Samuel R. Famous of Harford Co the plantation on which I now reside situated in Harford Co known by the name of Deer Park and containing 118 3/4 acres to be sold after 12 months and my personal property (except for a few listed items that he gives to Parker) and used to pay my debts and the balance to be equally divided between my children as follows: to the heirs of my daughter Hanah E. Peters (deceased) one share, to my daughter Sarah A. Rowland one share, to my daughter Elizabeth J. Burkens one share. to my son Andrew J. Famous one share, to my dau. Ellen J. Hornberger one share, to Rachel A. Carr my daughter one share. My executor to have a decent marble tombstone put to my grave at Emory M.E. Church. to my son Joseph M. Famous one share to my dau. Mary E. Pyle one share. to my son Parker H. Famous all the farm which I purchased from Jesse A. Carr lying in Harford Co containing 29 acres and to him one bureau, one bedstead, one bed and bedding and one gun. to my son Samuel C. Famous, one dollar I having already given him more than his legal share. Note the above named land Deer Park to be sold subject to a mortgage held by Samuel Berry of Norristown PA and recorded in Harford Co. I lastly appoint my sons Joseph M. Famous and Parker H. Famous to be my sole executors. Date Dec. 2 1879. proved Feb 2 1881. Feb 5 1881 Mordecai Scarborough and Mordecai S. Scarborough two of the witnesses came and acknowledged their witnessing the signing.

Sacred to the memory of Samuel R. Famous born Oct. 23, 1811 died Jan. 28, 1881 in the 70th year of his age. I would not want always Job 76,61 (?) May he rest in peace. Asleep in Jesus blessed sleep from which none ever wake to weep.
