Body Found In The Creek At Sheridan
County Coroner John L Light this morning made a complete investigation into the death of Oscar Long, at Sheridan, on Monday night, and issued a certificate of death by drowning. Whether it was accidental or a matter of suicide will probably never be known.
Found In Creek
Long was last seen on Monday evening, when he talked about flying machines, and insisted that he was going to be an aviator. He suddenly left his boarding place and was not seen alive again. On Tuesday morning his dead body was found lying in the creek, beneath the high bridge of the Reading railroad tracks, near Sheridan. It is supposed he ran around in the darkness and wandered into the stream or fell, or perhaps threw himself into the water.
Thought He Owned Farms
The man is alleged to have been in an unsound state of mind for a long time. He indulged in varied hallucinations, one of which was that he owned farms in the vicinity, and he created no end of trouble on several occasions by ordering tenants to leave properties and by discharging employes who did not know him.
Stayed At Sheridan House
Long and his second wife were staying at the Sheridan House, at Sheridan, where she earned their board as a domestic. They formerly resided at Four Points, near Rehrersburg. Besides his wife, Mary, he leaves a son by a former marriage. He leaves two brothers and four sisters.
Dr D T Warner, formerly of Lebanon, and now of Newmanstown, examined the body after it was found, and declared the man dead.
Funeral On Friday
Deceased was a member of the P.O.S.of A. and Jr. O.U.A.M. of Bethel. The funeral will be held at his residence at Four Points near Rehrersburg on Friday, Sept 28, at 9:30 at the house. Services in St Daniel's (Corner) church near Robesonia. Interment in the cemetery adjoining the church. Undertaker Fred B Arnold, of Womelsdorf, will have charge.
