Deacon Abraham Lincoln Watkins "Mr. Abe", 84, of Madison Heights, Virginia, formerly of Esmont, Virginia, went to be with The Lord on Saturday, April 9, 2011, at Virginia Baptist Hospital in Lynchburg, Virginia.

He was born on March 16, 1927, in Albemarle County, to the late Hudson and Beulah Wayne Watkins. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by three brothers, Hyman, James and Andrew Watkins; five sisters ,Eleanor Smith, Eula Watkins-Banks, Ola Adams, Mary Watkins and Garnett Hopkins.

Abraham joined Sand Road Baptist Church at an early age and served as a Deacon for many years. He retired from the federal government, and worked part-time for the Laird Company. Abraham was a United States Army Veteran. He also enjoyed baseball, watching his favorite team the Dallas Cowboys and spending time with his family.

He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife, Shirley W. Watkins of Madison Heights, Virginia; one son, Orlando Watkins and his wife, Brenda; one daughter, Aretha Watkins all of Esmont, Virginia; two stepsons, Arthur Stewart and his wife, Brandy, of Lynchburg, Virginia, Richard Stewart of Maryland; one step-daughter, Syria Franklin and her husband, Wendell, of Lynchburg, Virginia; one brother, Lewis Watkins and one sister, Emma Robinson, both of Esmont, Virginia; one grandson, Orlando Watkins Sr. and his wife, Ashley, of Esmont, Virginia; sixteen step-grandchildren and twenty step great-grandchildren as well as a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Thursday, April 14, 2011, at Sand Road Baptist Church in Esmont, Virginia, with the Reverend Joseph Vaughn officiating. Interment followed at the church cemetery.
