1916-2006
Rev. George Abia Harne, age 89 of Pensacola, a retired ordained Bishop with the
Church of God, passed from this life Wednesday, February 8, 2006. He was born
March 22, 1916 in Garfield, MD to W. D. L. and Katie Wise Harne. He joins them,
three sisters and six brothers who preceded him.
He retired from active pastoring in 1982. He evangelized in Maryland, Virginia
and Michigan and pastored in Maryland and Florida, pastoring in Pensacola from
1958 to 1970. He served as district overseer and member of the Florida Church of
God State Council. Since retirement, he remained active in nursing home
ministry.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Bernice E. Willard Harne; daughter,
Janet (Bill) Guthrie; son, Glyndon (Wanda) Harne; seven grandchildren, George A.
Harne, Bill R. Guthrie, Jr., John L. Guthrie II, Ryan Harne, Caryn Guthrie King,
Risa Harne and Eric Teel; and 10 great grandchildren.
Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m. on Monday, February 13, 2006 at Worship Center
Church of God on W. Street with Rev. Sherrill Isbell, Rev. Paul Harne and Rev.
Bill Guthrie officiating. Interment will follow in Pensacola Memorial Gardens.
Faith Chapel Funeral Home, 100 Beverly Pkwy, is in charge of arrangements.
The family will receive friends at Faith Chapel from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. on
Sunday, February 12, 2006.

Pastor Harne was one of the most loved pastors our church ever had. You never saw him without a suit and tie. He believed that he should always show dignity to the office he held, that is the office of pastor.
