U.S. Congressman. Born in Holmes City Township, Minnesota, he graduated from Hamline University, in 1897; moved to Grantsburg, Wisconsin, in 1897 and engaged in banking. He was a president of the local school board (1910-16) and Mayor of Grantsburg, (1914-16). He was a regent of the University of Wisconsin, (1906-19), president of the board of regents (1916-20) and vice president of the board of trustees of Hamline University, (1914-18). In 1918, he was elected as a Republican to the Sixty-fifth Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Irvine L. Lenroot, reelected to the Sixty-sixth and Sixty-seventh Congresses, serving until 1923. An unsuccessful candidate for re-nomination, he engaged in banking until his death at age 55 in Grantsburg, Wisconsin.
