Chico Enterprise, Wednesday, October 7, 1942: "Death Summons Charles E. Coon. Death took Charles Edward Coon, 68, of Durham yesterday afternoon at a local hospital following a long illness. Coon, born in Dayton, August 1, 1874, had lived in Butte county his entire life, receiving his education in the local schools. When a young man he became an employe in the post office and remained at that work for 29 years. He retired a few years ago. His parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Coon, crossed the plains by covered wagon in 1849 and 1852 respectively, and settled in this district where they engaged in farming. Survivors are his mother, Margaret Jane Coon of Chico; three sisters, Mrs. L.M. Compton of Rosevill [sic], and Mrs. Floyd Knudsen of Roseville, and Mrs. Frank Gambatta of San Francisco and several nieces and nephews. Fraternally he was a member of Chico Lodge No. 113, I.O.O.F. and had been a member for over 30 years. Friends are invited to attend the funeral Thursday morning at 10:30 o'clock at the Black and Johnson Funeral home, with Rev. Harris Pillsbury of the Bidwell Memorial Presbyterian church officiating. Interment will follow in the family plot in the Dayton cemetery under the auspices of the Chico Lodge No. 113 of I.O.O.F."

Coon Descendants, by Frances Davis McTeer, 1979, (pg. 219): "In 1880 Andrew Jackson and Maggie J. Coon were living in Paskenta, Tehama Co., Calif; they then had three children: Nellie aged 8, Charles aged 5, both born in Illinois, and a son M.O. age 2 born in California."
