His father John Woodward Jenkins founded J.W. Jenkins & Sons music company in Kansas City, Missouri. First opened in the late 1800's. John Wesley Jenkins expanded his family music business from a small room rented from a sewing machine and wall paper shop, to numerous store locations throughout the Midwest. John Wesley Jenkins was a millionaire when he died in 1932. He was returning home from Hartwell Missouri, where he had been Duck hunting. His car went down an embankment. There is still a Jenkins Music Company store operating in Kansas City, Missouri, as of 2002
