Harry Ephraim Rock was born in Independence, Kansas in 1878, third child and second son of Charles Ephraim Rock and Sarah Amelia Haskins. He moved to Kansas City, Missouri with his parents about 1882, and lived there most of his life.
He served in the United States Army during the First World War and was caught in an attack of poison gas, an injury from which he never fully recovered, and which later contributed to his death.
He married Minnie A. Beeler in 1901. They divorced before the war with no children. He married Martha Jane Dodson in 1920, and they had five children, Harry E., Charles Arthur, Kenneth Clifford, Lillian Lavonne, and Traverce Gilbert. Harry Rock died in 1940.
