James T. Doss was the son of Thomas Jefferson and Elizabeth Holyfield Doss. His siblings were: John H., Malinda, William R., Emily, Ruel A., Alexander, Jesse M., Millie Jane, and Hulda (or S. Mahulda.) Some people say the "T" stands for "Terry" instead of Tyra. He was killed in an automobile accident. He operated a filling station at the time of his death.

James married Martha Elizabeth Wolff in Surry Co., NC on 9 August 1894 per Surry Co. Marriage Records Book C, page 1110. Their children were: Ernest A. (Lillian Hendrick), James Claude (Kathleen Lineberry), Sadie Viola (Mrs. Grady M. Ledwell), Bessie I. (Mrs. William R. Goodman), Loy (Mrs. Manley M. Routh), Lula E. (Mrs. Wallace H. Hendrick), Maggie J. (Mrs. John H. Stone), Bertha Stella (Mrs. Howard Brewer), Lema A. (Mrs. Jesse C. Hardy), Ruby Catherine (Mrs. Raymond M. Thomas), Ruth Agnes, and Clarence Doss (Irene Hardy).

Lema Doss Hardy is buried at Lamms Grove Cem. at Cameron, NC. Loy Doss Routh is buried at the Cameron Cemetery (behind the Presbyterian Church) in Cameron. Bessie Doss Goodman is buried at the Cameron Cemetery in Cameron. Sadie Viola Doss Ledwell died Dec. 21, 1988, in El Paso Co., Texas. Lula Doss Hendrick is buried at the Cameron Cemetery. Ernest A.
