LEINONEN, Arvo Marshall – Age 85, of Sutherlin, passed away January 1, 1998 at a care home. He was born June 20, 1912 in Quincy, Oregon to Elias F. and Evelina U. “Kulppila” Leinonen.

Arvo was married to Sylvia Alder on June 19, 1937 in Longview, Washington. He had been a resident of Westport, Oregon from 1937 to 1956 where he worked for St. Helen Wood Products. They moved to Winston in 1956 where he worked for St. Helen Wood Products which was inside of Roseburg Lumber and then worked for Roseburg Lumber until 1977. He moved to Sutherlin in 1993.

He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Sutherlin Ward.

Survivors include his wife Sylvia of Sutherlin; three sons and daughters-in-law, Donald and Sofia Leinonen of Beaverton, Oregon, Gilbert and Linda Leinonen of Sutherlin and Robert and Kathy Leinonen of Roseburg; one sister, Mildred Torma of Sandy, Utah; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Dale Leinonen in 1942 and a granddaughter, Jennifer Amber Line non in 1981.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 10, 1998 at 1 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Sutherlin with Bishop Reed Finlayson officiating. Graveside services will follow in the Valley View Cemetery near Sutherlin.

Note: Arvo's father, Elias (Eli) F. Leinonen left Pattajon, Finland for Liverpool, England where he departed for Halifax, Nova Scotia on the ship "Laurentian", arriving on
6 May 1905. He was 30 yrs old.
