Funeral services for Elzene Penton, 80, were held at 10 a.m. Friday, July 24, 1987, at the Villisca United Methodist Church with the Rev. Steven Wainwright officiating.
Organist was Anabelle White with Mary Lynn Poston as soloist. Evelyn Williams, Lenore Enarson, and Katherine Wright were at the guest register. Pall bearers were Roger Poston, Wally Williams, Tom Focht, Marvin Focht, Floyd Gourley, Dwight Lewis, and Fred Gourley. Burial was in the Villisca Cemetery.
Elzene Loretta Penton, daughter of Fletcher and Lola Maud Prather Gourley, was born November 29, 1906, at Morton Mills, Iowa and passed away Wednesday, July 22, 1987, at Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak.
Mrs. Penton graduated from Villisca High School in 1924. She then taught school for four years. On October 1, 1929, she was married to Waldo Penton. They lived on a farm southwest of Villisca until 1974, when they moved to town.
Mrs. Penton is survived by one son, Jerry and his wife Sandy, four grandchildren, Julie, Joe, Steve, and Brian, and one brother Alvin Gourley of Carlinville, Illinois. She was preceded in death by her husband, Waldo on March 30, 1979; one sister, Irene Focht; and three brothers, Walter, Ralph, and Floyd.
Memorials may be made to the United Methodist Church, Villisca Rescue, or Villisca Library.
Wolfe Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
