Jerome J. "Jerry" Thoennes, 76, rural Doran, Minn., died July 10, 2005, at his home.
He was born May 9, 1929, to Joseph and Anna "Dorothy" (Henschel) Thoennes in Millerville, Minn. At a young age he moved with his family to White Rock, S.D. He attended rural school in the Campbell area.
He was united in marriage to Lauretta Schott on Sept. 25,1947, in Breckenridge. The couple made their home in Morris for two years and then moved to the Campbell area where they have lived for over 50 years. He was an independent truck driver for 39 years, known to his truck driving buddies as "Geronimo."
Following his retirement in 1995, he enjoyed farming with the Deal brothers. He also enjoyed gardening, lawn mowing, building unique bird houses, and helping his children with remodeling projects. He especially enjoyed time spent with his children and grandchildren.
He is suvived by his wife; children: Raymond (Linda) Thoennes of Wahpeton, N.D., Richard (Susan) Thoennes of Sandstone, Minn.. Linda (Bruce) Helkenn of Montevideo, Karen Milbrandt of Breckenridge, David Thoennes of Breckenridge, and John (Amanda) Thoennes of Grand Forks, Laurie (Tom) Roberts of Sioux Falls, S.D.; brothers: Urban (Joan) Thoennes of Minneapolis, Omar (Maxine) Thoennes of Fresno, Calif.; sister Luella Dunham of Fargo; grandchildren: Bradley and Kristie Thoennes, Jeremy Thoennes, Russell (Julie) Olson, Nikki (Mike) Shrupp, Shannon (Darren) Privratsky, David Jr. (Paulette) and Tim Thoennes, Matthew, Megan, and Jonathan Thoennes, Amanda and Alexis Roberts, and Kyle VanCleave; and greatgrandchildren: Cody Frey, Devin Privratsky, Kari and Jacob Olson, Mary Melissa Walvatne and Isaac Fenske/Thoennes.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Louise Petermann and Dorothy Totze, son Daniel Thoennes; grandson Ryan Thoennes; and in-laws Edward and Zella Schott
Visitation: Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m., with a 7 p.m. prayer service at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service at the church
Service: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. John's Catholic Church in Wahpeton
