James D. Duncan, who was well known in Miller County and had lived in Eldon since 1901, passed away at his home Saturday at noon following a long illness. He was a farmer in his younger days, moving to Eldon when the Rock Island needed workers. He later operated a grocery and meat market on Maple Street. He has many relatives and good friends in Miller County. He loved the outdoor life and outdoor sports. His hobby was fishing.
He married Nancy Lee Farmer Feb 14, 1892. Two children were born to this union, Carrie Belle, passing away in 1902 at the age of 8.
Mr. Duncan is survived by his wife and one son, Mont, who, with his wife and daughter Helen Louise live at Farmington, Mo. He leaves four brothers, William J. Duncan of Sapulpa, Okla., Ivy G. Duncan of Kansas City, Mo., Frank H. Duncan of Eldon and Lloyd A. Duncan of Fort Morgan, Colo.
Mr. Duncan had been a member of the Eldon M.E. Church for many years.
His body lay in state at the Kays Funeral Home in Eldon from Saturday until Tuesday when services were held at the Eldon M.E. Church by the pastor, Rev. Raymond Sturgis. Interment was in Eldon Cemetery.
