Jesse never married. He lived in Douglas Twp, Bremer Co, IA, address Ionia, Iowa on the farm previously owned and occupied by his grandfather Dr. Benjamin J. Goodwin, which Benjamin had bought in 1854 from the government. He lived on that farm all his life, until November 1970 when he moved into Nashua, Iowa for reasons of declining health. He farmed all his work life, and also did carpentry work in the area until about eight years before he died. He died in a hospital in Waterloo, after an extended illness. His funeral was in the little church at Republic, Iowa in Bremer County. The cemetery is about a mile from the church.
