MEADVILLE, May 17.—Prof. Frederic Huidekoper died at his home on Water street yesterday. By his death the city loses one who has been identified with its improvements, schools, etc., for more than three-fourths of a century.
He was a son of Harm Jan and Rebecca Huidekoper; was born April 17, 1817, in a portion of Mead township, now included in the city of Meadville. Nov. 10,1853, he was married to Harriet N. Thorp, and to this union four children were born, two of whom, Mrs. Winthrop Perry of Connecticut, and Miss Anna J. Huidekoper survive him.
In 1844 he aided in founding the Meadville Theological school, in which he was a teacher for many years. His three published works are "Belief of the First Three Centuries Concerning Christ's Mission to the Underworld," (1854), "Judaism at Rome," (1876) and "Indirect Testimony of History to the Genuineness of the Gospels," (1878). In addition to works of his above mentioned, he was professor to the Theological school nine consecutive years, librarian and treasurer during a period of 17 years.
