Andrew Wilson Caldwell was the son of Charles M. (Matthew?) and Edna Floyd Caldwell. He was born in Georgia about 1844 and in 1850 was living in the area of Newton County, Georgia.

During the 1860's--1870 his family lived in the Atlanta area.

He enlisted as Private Lee Andrew Wilson Caldwell in the War Between the States from Fulton County, Georgia. He joined Company I, Georgia 42nd Infantry Regiment on March 4, 1862. He was promoted to a full 4th Corporal on November 15, 1863 and mustered out on April 26, 1865 at Greensboro, NC. His date of death is listed as October 19, 1891 in Lawrenceburg, KY. Source: Roster of Confederate Soldiers of Georgia 1861-1865. However newspaper evidence indicates his date of death as otherwise.

He married Lula Mason in August of 1870 and they moved to Austin, Texas where Andrew owned and operated a hardware store in the downtown area of Nachez and Pecan Streets for about 5 years.

Between 1872 and 1879 the Caldwell's had four children, 2 boys and 2 girls all born in Texas. Between 1880-1890 the family moved to the Louisville, Kentucky area where he appears in the City Directory.

His obituary is found in the "Anderson News", Lawrenceburg, Kentucky dated October 23, 1890. It states that he died at his home in Lanawee from a sudden death. He was an "honest, industrious and useful citizen."
