Mustered into Federal service, from Jackson County, Iowa, on September 24, 1861, under an early command of Brevet Major General William Vandever.

Battle of Resaca.
Battle of Atlanta.
Battle of Jonesboro.
Battle of Bentonville.
Mustered out July 18, 1865.
Regiment loss: 12 Officers and 142 Enlisted men killed / mortally wounded. 2 Officers and 230 Enlisted men by disease. Total 386.

G.A.R. to Officiate at J.S. Acker Funeral
As a result of a stroke of paralysis several weeks ago, John S Acker, an old time resident of this place, passed away Thursday morning at the family home, 601 North Church Street, at the age of 81 years.
He was a native of Canada and had resided here for the past 32 years, where he had gained the good will of the community. He was a veteran of the Civil War.
The deceased was the husband of Mrs. Mary Jane Jones Acker and father of Berton and Jessie Acker of Lodi, and Maud of Ripon, and Delmer of Jamestown.
The funeral will be held this afternoon at 2 o'clock from the chapel of Hale and Dawson. Rev. Schwimley will officiate and internment will be made in Lodi cemetery. The G.A.R. will take charge of the services at the grave.
