Boyd W. Borland, 90, Independence, formerly Butler, Mo., passed away April 13, 2011. Visitation 9-10 a.m. Tues., April 26, at Norfleet Baptist Church, 5512 Norfleet Rd., Kansas City, MO 64133, with funeral service 10 a.m. Burial, Oak Hill Cemetery, Butler. Boyd W. Borland, 90 of Independence and formerly of Butler, Mo., passed away April 13, 2011 at Village House in Lee's Summit.

Boyd was born August 31, 1920 in Bates County, Mo., son of Clyde and Gladys (Barnes) Borland. He graduated from Butler High School in 1939. After that time, he moved to Des Moines and married Deloris Fuller January 31, 1940. To this union three children were born: Joseph, Elaine and David. Boyd resided in Des Moines while working for Coca-Cola for 20 years until 1964, when he returned to Independence and went to work for Vendo for 23 years. The last two years of this he spent in San Francisco, Calif., and then he retired in Independence, Mo. Deloris passed away in 2002. Later on a bus trip, Boyd held the door for Beverly Kistler on the way to the Osceola Cheese Factory. From that point, Boyd and Beverly were never separated and were married May 1, 2004 at the Rockwood Baptist Church in Independence.

Boyd had also been in the Army Air Force as a Radio Technician in Alaska. Boyd had been a deacon at Rockwood Baptist Church, and had most recently attended Norfleet Baptist Church. Boyd's favorite time of the year was Easter, and what a better time for him to be called home.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one son Joseph Arthur Borland, and his first wife Deloris. He is survived by his wife Beverly; daughter Elaine Rogers (Jerry); son David Borland (Tami); step-son Jay Sahling (Bridget); step-daughter Linda Gavin (Robert); 16 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 9:00 – 10:00 AM Tuesday, April 26, 2011 at Norfleet Baptist Church, 5512 Norfleet Road, Kansas City, MO 64133. Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM with Rev. Scott Flippin presiding. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery, Butler. Mr. Borland will lie in state during the hours of 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM Monday, April 25 at Mullinax Funeral Home of Butler (660) 679-0009 where friends may view and sign the register if they wish. Memorial contributions are suggested to Norfleet Baptist Church or John Knox Hospice.
