Mabel M. Muench, daughter of Harm and Emma (Jenkins) Hansen of Paton, was born August 25, 1906, in Livingston County, Illinois where she spent her early childhood. She died on Oct. 18 at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines after a brief illness.
At the age of eight she moved to Paton, Iowa with her parents. There she attended school.
She married Cleo Emery Muench on June 2, 1926. To this union three daughters and two sons were born. Most of their married life was spent farming in the Paton and St. Anthony communities.
Mabel was preceded in death by her husband in 1964 and two grandsons, Ronald Eugene Harvey and Basil Eugene Muench.
Survivors include her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harm Hansen of Paton; five children: Deloris (Mrs. Melvin Freund) of Clarion, Verle Muench of State Center, twins Larry Muench and Lavon (Mrs. Franklin Phelps) of Ogden and Gloria (Mrs. Dwight Johnson) of State Center; three sisters: Mrs. Boyd Condit of Jefferson, Mrs. Wayne Clark of Guthrie Center and Mrs. Howard Conant of Jefferson; two brothers: Wayne Hansen of Moberly, MO and Raymond Hansen (Alice) of Paton; and nine grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mrs. Muench were held Monday, Oct. 21, 1968, at 10:30 am at Community United Methodist Church with Dr. Robert Robinson officiating. Burial was in Glenwood Cemetery with Treloar Garson Funeral Home in charge. Special organ music was provided by Mrs. J.C. Hathaway. Mr. and Mrs. Howard Muench and Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Muench cared for the flowers. Casket bearers were Duane Condit, Roger Conant, Dwight Lehman, Dwight Muench, Merlin Muench and Philip Muench.
