Chalmus Sylvander Earnheart son of George and Jerusha Jane Scott Earnheart was born November 1, 1859, at Hernando Mississippi, and departed this life February 26, 1944, at the age of 84 years, 3 months and 26 days. When quite young following the outbreak of the Civil War he moved with his parents to Bond County, Illinois. At the close of the war they returned to Mississippi. After losing his father in 1867, the family moved to Texas, where in 1881, he was united in marriage to Mrs. Anne Wyatt. To this union were born three children, all of whom survive.
In 1888 he brought his family to the Indian Territory, locating near Duncan, where they lived until 1893, when at the opening of the Cherokee Strip, he made the run. He staked a claim near Covington, but after looking it over was disappointed and returned immediately to his home. Three days later he bought a relinquishment of the place where he settled, seven miles east of Waukomis, and lived there until a few months ago.
At the age of 32 he was converted and united with a Missionary Baptist Church, and after coming to the Waukomis area was a charter member of Bethlehem Baptist Church, remaining a member until his death. He was very staunch in his convictions to meet his Savior.
His wife preceded him in death. December 15, 1938 and a step daughter, Mrs. Laura Cummings February 8, 1942.
Survivors include two daughters. Mrs. Sid Talbot of Yukon, and Mrs. Elmer Brink of Afton: one son, Clyde Earnheart of Waukomis: Two sisters, Mrs. Emma Combs of Shatner, California and Mrs. Ella Dickerson of Lincoln, Arkansas. Nine grandchildren 11 great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at the Christian Church in Waukomis on Monday afternoon, February 28, with Rev. J. A. Land of Enid in charge, with interment at the Waukomis Cemetery.
