US Congressman. Born in Y Bynea, near Llanelly, Wales, he immigrated to America in 1868 and was educated in metallurgical chemistry at the University of Mount Union Ohio. He was an analytical chemist in Niles, Ohio, (1886-88) and engaged in the iron and steel business, serving as president of the Mahoning Steel Company. On November 8, 1904, he was elected as a Republican to the Fifty-eighth Congress and to the next three succeeding congresses, serving until 1911. An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he relocated to Talladega, Alabama, continued his interest in the manufacture of iron and served as president of the Jenifer Iron Company until his death at age 85.
