SEDAN, N.M. - Merle H. Callis, 89, died Saturday, April 16, 2011, in Amarillo, Texas.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in First United Methodist Church in Clayton with the Rev. Mark Honeycutt, pastor of Clayton Church of God, officiating. Burial will be in Texline Cemetery in Texline, Texas. Arrangements are by Hass Funeral Directors of Clayton.

Mr. Callis was born Feb. 8, 1922, at the family home in Sedan to Henry Edward Callis and Bertie Shilling Callis. A lifelong resident of the Sedan Community, he served in the U.S. Army during WWII and then returned to the Sedan Community.

Survivors include two daughters, Dana McNickle of Phoenix, and Andrea Esquivel of Clayton; three sons, Gary Callis of Texline, Texas, Randy Callis of Clayton and Wendell Callis of Sedan; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Myrtle Murphy of Yukon, Okla; and a a brother, Andy Callis of Lela Lake, Texas.

The family suggests that memorials be to the Sedan Community Building, in care of Billy Lutes, 505 Sedan U.S. Highway, Sedan, NM 88436.
