Married 07 Nov 1867 to Mary Steele

Internment December 10, 1911

Obituary - appeared in the Newtown Register of December 14, 1911, Page 5.

Caleb Tappan Howell, a life-long resident of Woodside, died last Saturday morning at his residence on Third street, in the seventy-seventh year of his age, after an illness of two months. Mr. Howell was the youngest and only surviving son of the Kelly and Howell family, who many years ago purchased a large section of the old Sackett farm which included almost the entire portion of Woodside. He was born February 22, 1835, in the old Kelly homestead on Woodside avenue, the present site of St. Sebastian's Church, where he spent his early boyhood days. On November 7, 1867, he was married to Mary M. Steele, of the Ravenswood Steele family. Mr. Howell was a widower and is survived by one son, Hamilton T. Howell, and a sister Anna M. Crandall, besides many nephews and nieces.
The funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at two o'clock, at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, where his family for many years attended. Rev. Dr. Isaac C. Sturgis, of St. Cornelius Church of Manhattan, officiated. The interment was made privately in the family plot at Maple Grove Cemetery.
To those older dwellers of Woodside, who knew and met him almost daily, words are not needed to express the esteem with which he was held. A devoted husband and father, a loyal friend to rich and poor alike, and as such he will long be remembered.
