US Congressman. He attended the Cortland Academy, studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1844 and commenced to practice law in Cortland, New York. He was editor and owner of the Cortland County Whig Newspaper. In 1847, he was elected as a Whig to the Thirtieth and Thirty-first Congresses, serving until 1851. After his term, he continued the practice of law, moved to Janesville, Wisconsin, in 1855, was elected judge of the Wisconsin Circuit Court in 1870 and served until his death at age 66.
