U.S. Congressman. He graduated from Jefferson College, in 1838, studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1845 and commenced to practice law in Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania, in 1846. He was a delegate to the Republican National Convention in 1856 and elected as a Republican to the Thirty-sixth and Thirty-seventh Congresses, serving (1859-63). An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he resumed the practice of law until his death at age 69.
