U.S. Congressman. While as a teacher at Huntingdon Academy, he studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1836 and commenced to practice law in Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania. In 1849, he was elected as a Whig to the Thirty-first Congress, serving until 1851. Declining to be a candidate for re-nomination, he resumed the practice of law and was a member of the Pennsylvania State revenue board. He also was the director of the Hollidaysburg School Board until his death at age 78.
