Robert C. Ashby, 83, of Mooresville, died Monday, Jan. 2, 2006, at his home. Born Oct. 6, 1922, in Guilford County, he was a son of the late Charlie Mack and Octavia Hudspeth Ashby. A retired long distance truck driver, Mr. Ashby was a World War II veteran having served in the U.S. Army in Germany. He was a member of Mt. Mourne Church of God.
He was preceded in death by great-grandsons, Joshua Reid and Cole Karriker ; brothers, Marvin, Paul, Claude and Raymond Ashby; sister, Lennie Mae Jones; and an infant brother and two infant sisters. Mr. Ashby is survived by his wife, Lennie Rhue West Ashby, whom he married Sept. 12, 1970.
Also surviving are children, Robert Ashby, Dorothy Love and Betty Bruff, all of Lexington; stepchildren, James Osborne, Terry Osborne, and Diane Osborne, all of Mooresville, Mary Fulton of Faith and Lynn Osborne of Arlington, Va.; brothers, Lloyd Ashby of Sanford and Frank Ashby of Arcadia; 14 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 5, at the Mt. Mourne Church of God with Rev. W. Lawrence Ownbey and Rev. Bert Scott officiating. Burial will follow in Glenwood Memorial Park, Mooresville. The family will receive friends from 12:30-2 p.m., Thursday at the church prior to the service.
