US Senator. In 1889 graduate of the University of Pennsylvania Law School, in 1890 he founded a law firm in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania that eventually became the firm of Troutman Pepper Hamilton Sanders LLP (which exists today with 23 offices). He was elected as a Republican Senator from Pennsylvania to the United States Senate to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Senator Boise Penrose, serving from 1922 until 1927. Wrote autobiography Philadelphia Lawyer (1944).
